Allotment and community garden membership card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet

In a community garden, some members rent a plot, others only come for the compost and the workshops, and in February the committee has to find out which plot holders are carrying on. An allotment association membership card in the Wallet shows each gardener’s plan and year, and renewal reminders go out before the sowing season.

Member or plot holder: what the card shows

The card shows the garden’s name and logo, the gardener’s name and member number, the plan and the validity date. Member and Plot are example plans: the first for people who join the association, the second for those who also tend a plot. When a plot comes free and a member takes it over, you change their plan and the card updates. Cards are sent by email or link. At the gate, the shed or a workshop, a committee member can scan the QR code with a phone. MPass does not manage the waiting list or the plan of plots.

Example plans and amounts from the “Membership card” template: you change the names, the amounts and the validity period. MPass does not collect these amounts. On the back of the card you write your own text, for example: Community gardens · Compost · Workshops.

Three real situations

Plot renewals in February

Before the first sowings, the committee needs to know which plots are kept. Plot holders are reminded a month before their card ends; those who pay are extended, and the other plots can be offered to the next person on your list.

A seed-sowing workshop

The greenhouse bench has room for twelve trays. The workshop is opened with twelve tickets through a link, members show their card for the free place, and seed compost is bought for the right number.

At the tool shed on a Saturday

The shed is opened by whoever is on duty. Someone unfamiliar asks for the wheelbarrow and the scythe: a look at the card shows a plot holder who joined last month, and the tools go out without a debate.

How it works: 3 steps

Open the “Gardening & allotments” template

It is already set up for this activity: “Membership card” as the title, example plans, colours. Add your logo and your own text in ten minutes.

Add your members

One by one, through a sign-up link each person fills in, or by Excel import on the Pro plan. Everyone receives their card by email or by link.

Scan with your phone

The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in one tap. To check it, you scan its QR code with your own phone, with no hardware to buy.

Create my gardener card

Example: 32 plots and 28 members without a plot

Imagine a community garden with 32 plots and 28 members who come for workshops, compost and the plant swap. Example fees: €40 a year with a plot, €15 without. The secretary enters the sixty gardeners over a rainy afternoon; fees are paid by transfer or into the tin at the shed. Sixty cards is above the free plan’s 50, so the garden takes Essential at €19 excl. VAT a month, and the reminder a month before expiry does the February chasing.

Tickets for your events too

The same app creates tickets for your events, for example “Seed-sowing workshop” or “Plant swap”. You share a link, each guest gets a ticket with a QR code in their Wallet, and you scan at the door. MPass does not collect the ticket price: you take it as you always have. See event ticketing.

What it costs

Free up to 50 active cards or tickets, with no time limit. The Essential plan (€19 a month excluding VAT, up to 300 cards) adds renewal reminders and certificates. The Pro plan (€49 a month excluding VAT) adds Excel import. No commitment, and a 14-day trial of the paid plans with no credit card.

Frequently asked questions

Does MPass manage the waiting list for plots?

No. MPass has no waiting list and no map of the garden. You keep the list of people waiting and decide who gets a plot. Once someone takes one, you change their plan from Member to Plot and their card shows it.

Two friends share one plot. How many cards?

As many as there are people who should be recognised at the gate. Add both on the Plot plan and each has a card. If your rules name one tenant per plot, give the Plot plan to that person and the Member plan to the other.

Can the card open the garden gate?

No. MPass does not control locks or gates and needs no equipment on site. The gate keeps its key or its code. The card is checked by a person, with a phone, when it matters: at the shed, at a workshop, at the general meeting.

Does MPass collect membership fees?

No. You enter the amounts for information only. Your members pay the club as usual (bank transfer, in person) and you activate their card in MPass. No payment goes through the app.

Do we need to install an app?

No. You manage everything from your browser, and your members install nothing: the card goes straight into Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android), which are already on their phone.
