Walking club membership card: the walker card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet

A walking club meets on a church square at nine on a Sunday, with no office, no door and a leader who would like to know who is a member before twenty-five people set off along a ridge. The walking club membership card is in each walker’s phone, in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and can be checked right there on the square.

The walker card: what is on it

The walker card shows the club’s name and colours, the walker’s name and number, the plan and the year. Plans could be Member and Family, for instance. Walkers sign up through a membership link, pay the club by transfer or on a walk, and receive the card by email. Once it is in the Wallet it is displayed even where there is no signal. When a walker renews, the same card carries on. The walk leader checks by scanning the QR code with a phone. The card does not include insurance, and MPass does not record who walked which route.

Example plans and amounts from the “Walker card” template: you change the names, the amounts and the validity period. MPass does not collect these amounts. On the back of the card you write your own text, for example: Walking · Nordic walking · Trekking · ADEPS.

Three real situations

The start of the Sunday walk

Fifteen kilometres along the ridge, departure from the church square. While boots are laced, the leader scans the cards of unfamiliar faces and tells guests how to join if they enjoy the day.

The weekend in the Ardennes

The group lodge has thirty beds. Places are tickets reserved through a link, paid to the treasurer by transfer, and the number of tickets taken tells the cook how many to cater for.

Renewals in the new year

Members receive a reminder a month before their card ends if the club is on Essential. Those who pay are extended; those who have drifted away simply expire, without a phone call from the secretary.

How it works: 3 steps

Open the “Hiking & walking” template

It is already set up for this activity: “Walker card” as the title, example plans, colours. Add your logo and your own text in ten minutes.

Add your members

One by one, through a sign-up link each person fills in, or by Excel import on the Pro plan. Everyone receives their card by email or by link.

Scan with your phone

The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in one tap. To check it, you scan its QR code with your own phone, with no hardware to buy.

Create my walker card

Example: a club of 48 walkers

Take a club with 30 individual members and 9 families, 48 walkers in all. Example fees: €20 for a member, €35 for a family. The secretary adds everyone one by one from last year’s list and sends the cards by email. Fees arrive by transfer in January and cards are activated as they do. With 48 active cards the club fits in the free plan, with no time limit. Renewal reminders, or tickets for the Ardennes weekend, would be the reason to move to Essential at €19 excl. VAT a month.

Tickets for your events too

The same app creates tickets for your events, for example “Ridge walk · 15 km” or “Weekend in the Ardennes”. You share a link, each guest gets a ticket with a QR code in their Wallet, and you scan at the door. MPass does not collect the ticket price: you take it as you always have. See event ticketing.

What it costs

Free up to 50 active cards or tickets, with no time limit. The Essential plan (€19 a month excluding VAT, up to 300 cards) adds renewal reminders and certificates. The Pro plan (€49 a month excluding VAT) adds Excel import. No commitment, and a 14-day trial of the paid plans with no credit card.

Frequently asked questions

Does the walker card include insurance?

No. MPass is not an insurer and the card carries no cover. If your club insures its members through a federation or a broker, that stays separate. The card only shows that the walker is a paid-up member for the year.

There is no mobile signal at many of our starting points. Does it work?

Yes. Once added to the Wallet, the card is stored on the phone and is displayed without a connection. The QR code can also be scanned offline, so a car park at the edge of a forest is not a problem.

Can guests join a walk before becoming members?

That is your club’s decision. If you allow two or three trial walks, nothing needs to be created for the guest. When they decide to join, give them the membership link: they fill it in, pay the club, and you activate the card.

Does MPass collect membership fees?

No. You enter the amounts for information only. Your members pay the club as usual (bank transfer, in person) and you activate their card in MPass. No payment goes through the app.

Do we need to install an app?

No. You manage everything from your browser, and your members install nothing: the card goes straight into Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android), which are already on their phone.
