The amateur theatre membership card, in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet

Between rehearsals, set building and the hall hire, nobody in the company has time to chase subscriptions or print cards for the supporting members. With MPass, each amateur theatre membership card sits in the member’s phone, shows who has joined for the season and is scanned at the door on performance nights.

What the company card shows, from first read-through to last night

The card carries your company’s name, logo and colours, the member’s name and number, and their plan: for example Actor at €40 or Supporting member at €20 for the season. The end date is written on it, so everyone sees when the season’s subscription runs out. Extend a card or move a supporter to the acting list and it changes by itself in the phone, with no new card to send. At the hall, you scan the QR code with your own phone to see whether it is still valid.

Actor€40

Example plans and amounts from the “Membership card” template: you change the names, the amounts and the validity period. MPass does not collect these amounts. On the back of the card you write your own text, for example: Troupe · Directing · Performances.

Three real situations

Subscription night at first rehearsal

In September the treasurer collects subscriptions in cash or by transfer, as always. Each time one comes in, the card is switched on and reaches the actor’s phone by email, so there is no list to pin up in the rehearsal room.

Front of house on performance night

Supporting members show their card at the door and whoever is on front of house scans it with a phone. Audience tickets created in MPass carry a QR code too, so one person can check both without a paper list.

A month before the season ends

On the Essential plan, each member gets an automatic reminder a month before their card runs out. The committee no longer has to write to last year’s cast and supporters one by one before auditions start.

How it works: 3 steps

Open the “Amateur theatre” template

It is already set up for this activity: “Membership card” as the title, example plans, colours. Add your logo and your own text in ten minutes.

Add your members

One by one, through a sign-up link each person fills in, or by Excel import on the Pro plan. Everyone receives their card by email or by link.

Scan with your phone

The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in one tap. To check it, you scan its QR code with your own phone, with no hardware to buy.

Create my theatre company card

Example: a village company of 32 members

Take a village company with 20 actors and crew and 12 supporting members. The secretary shares the sign-up link in the cast group chat, people fill in their own details, and she switches each card on once the subscription has reached the treasurer. That is 32 active cards, so the Free plan (up to 50 active cards or tickets) covers the membership. If the company also issues tickets for its premiere in a 90-seat hall, it goes over 50 and moves to Essential at €19 excl. VAT per month, with no commitment.

Tickets for your events too

The same app creates tickets for your events, for example “Performance” or “Performance (encore)”. You share a link, each guest gets a ticket with a QR code in their Wallet, and you scan at the door. MPass does not collect the ticket price: you take it as you always have. See event ticketing.

What it costs

Free up to 50 active cards or tickets, with no time limit. The Essential plan (€19 a month excluding VAT, up to 300 cards) adds renewal reminders and certificates. The Pro plan (€49 a month excluding VAT) adds Excel import. No commitment, and a 14-day trial of the paid plans with no credit card.

Frequently asked questions

Can we use MPass for the box office of our play?

You can create tickets for a performance: you share a link, each spectator receives a ticket with a QR code, and you scan it at the door. MPass does not take the money, though. People pay the company as they do now, by transfer, in cash at the door or through the payment tool you already use, and there is no commission.

Does the ticket give a seat number in the hall?

No. MPass does not manage a seating plan or reserve rows. It suits unreserved seating, which is how most village halls and small stages work. If you number your seats, keep your plan in your own file and use the ticket only as proof of entry.

What about supporting members who do not act?

Give them their own plan, for example Supporting member at €20. Their card looks like the actors’ card but states their plan, so front of house can tell who is who. What the card entitles them to, a free seat or a drink at the interval, is for your company to decide and explain.

Does MPass collect membership fees?

No. You enter the amounts for information only. Your members pay the club as usual (bank transfer, in person) and you activate their card in MPass. No payment goes through the app.

Do we need to install an app?

No. You manage everything from your browser, and your members install nothing: the card goes straight into Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android), which are already on their phone.
