Running and athletics club membership card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet
Between the track group, the trail runners and a beginners’ course that starts afresh each spring, a running club has people joining at four different times of the year. A running club membership card in the Wallet gives each athlete their own plan and end date, and the coach checks it at the track gate with a phone.

What an athlete’s card shows
Name, member number, plan, valid until: the essentials, in your club colours. Adult, Youth and Beginner are example plans. The Beginner plan can run for the length of a zero-to-5-km course and stop there; if the runner stays, you switch them to Adult and the card changes on their phone. Cards are sent by email or through a link. At the track, the coach scans the QR code with a phone to see whether a card is valid. MPass does not time races or record training sessions.
| Example plan | Example amount |
|---|---|
| Adult | €120 |
| Youth | €90 |
| Beginner | €60 |
Example plans and amounts from the “Membership card” template: you change the names, the amounts and the validity period. MPass does not collect these amounts. On the back of the card you write your own text, for example: Jogging · Trail · Athletics track.
Three real situations
Tuesday evening at the track
The stadium is lent to the club for two hours and only members may use the lanes. The coach glances at cards in the first weeks of the season and scans the ones that look out of date.
Week one of the beginners’ course
Thirty people who have never run turn up in new shoes. They joined through the membership link and their card runs for the ten weeks of the course, so the group leader knows who is enrolled without a roll call in the rain.
Bib collection for the club 10 km
Entrants received a ticket with a QR code when they registered. At the collection table you scan it and hand over the bib and safety pins; a ticket presented twice is flagged by the scanner.
How it works: 3 steps
Open the “Running & athletics” template
It is already set up for this activity: “Membership card” as the title, example plans, colours. Add your logo and your own text in ten minutes.
Add your members
One by one, through a sign-up link each person fills in, or by Excel import on the Pro plan. Everyone receives their card by email or by link.
Scan with your phone
The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in one tap. To check it, you scan its QR code with your own phone, with no hardware to buy.
Example: 140 athletes and a spring beginners’ group
Picture a club with 95 adults, 20 youth athletes and 25 beginners who join in March. Example fees: €120, €90 and €60. Adults and youth renew in September by bank transfer; beginners sign up through the link on the poster for the course and pay at the first session. The secretary activates each card once the fee is in. At 140 cards the club is on Essential, €19 excl. VAT a month, and uses the certificates for members whose health insurer refunds part of a sports fee.
Tickets for your events too
The same app creates tickets for your events, for example “Club run · 10 km” or “Hill trail”. You share a link, each guest gets a ticket with a QR code in their Wallet, and you scan at the door. MPass does not collect the ticket price: you take it as you always have. See event ticketing.
What it costs
Free up to 50 active cards or tickets, with no time limit. The Essential plan (€19 a month excluding VAT, up to 300 cards) adds renewal reminders and certificates. The Pro plan (€49 a month excluding VAT) adds Excel import. No commitment, and a 14-day trial of the paid plans with no credit card.
Frequently asked questions
Is the ticket for our race a bib or a timing chip?
Neither. The ticket proves that the runner is entered; you scan it when they collect their bib. Numbering, chips, timing and results come from your timing provider or your own stopwatch team. MPass does not handle them.
Can a beginner’s card last only as long as the course?
Yes. You choose the end date of each card, so a ten-week card for a beginners’ course is possible next to full-season cards. When a beginner carries on, change the plan and the date: the card they already have is updated.
Members ask for a certificate of membership. Can MPass issue it?
On Essential and Pro, yes. You open the member’s record and create a certificate showing the club, the member, the fee and the period. Whether an insurer or employer accepts it for a refund depends on their own rules, so members should check with them.
Does MPass collect membership fees?
No. You enter the amounts for information only. Your members pay the club as usual (bank transfer, in person) and you activate their card in MPass. No payment goes through the app.
Do we need to install an app?
No. You manage everything from your browser, and your members install nothing: the card goes straight into Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android), which are already on their phone.
