Student sports society membership card: the sports card in the Wallet
Your society trains in a university sports centre it does not run, with squads that change every semester and a tournament where six faculties turn up at once. The student sports society membership card, a sports card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, shows each student’s plan and year and is scanned at the hall.

The sports card: member or competition
The sports card carries your society’s name and colours, the student’s name and number, the plan and the end of the academic year. Member and Competition are example plans, the second for those who play inter-university fixtures. Students join through a membership link and receive the card by email. If someone is picked for a competition team in November, you change the plan and the card follows. On training nights, a committee member scans the QR code with a phone. The sports centre’s own access rules still apply.
| Example plan | Example amount |
|---|---|
| Member | €25 |
| Competition | €45 |
Example plans and amounts from the “Sports card” template: you change the names, the amounts and the validity period. MPass does not collect these amounts. On the back of the card you write your own text, for example: University sports · Inter-university.
Three real situations
Training night at the sports centre
The hall is booked in the society’s name from eight to ten. A committee member at the door scans cards for the first quarter of an hour, so the session is not filled by people who never joined.
The inter-faculty tournament
Teams register in advance and receive tickets by link. On the day, captains show them at the check-in table and the scanner flags a ticket that has already been used, which stops one team entering twice.
Sports night
The society’s yearly party funds the travel to away fixtures. Entry tickets are issued through a link, paid to the treasurer, and scanned at the function hall; members show their card for the member price.
How it works: 3 steps
Open the “Student sports society” template
It is already set up for this activity: “Sports card” as the title, example plans, colours. Add your logo and your own text in ten minutes.
Add your members
One by one, through a sign-up link each person fills in, or by Excel import on the Pro plan. Everyone receives their card by email or by link.
Scan with your phone
The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in one tap. To check it, you scan its QR code with your own phone, with no hardware to buy.
Example: 210 members, 45 of them in competition
Imagine a society offering volleyball, futsal, badminton and running to 210 students, 45 of whom play inter-university matches. Example fees: €25 for a member, €45 for the competition plan. The link goes out in the first week of term; students register themselves and pay by mobile transfer. The treasurer activates cards in batches each evening. With 210 cards, Essential at €19 excl. VAT a month covers the society, and members who ask can get a membership certificate.
Tickets for your events too
The same app creates tickets for your events, for example “Inter-faculty tournament” or “Sports night”. You share a link, each guest gets a ticket with a QR code in their Wallet, and you scan at the door. MPass does not collect the ticket price: you take it as you always have. See event ticketing.
What it costs
Free up to 50 active cards or tickets, with no time limit. The Essential plan (€19 a month excluding VAT, up to 300 cards) adds renewal reminders and certificates. The Pro plan (€49 a month excluding VAT) adds Excel import. No commitment, and a 14-day trial of the paid plans with no credit card.
Frequently asked questions
The sports centre belongs to the university. Can its staff check our cards?
They can read them: the card shows the society, the student and a date. The QR scan is done from your society’s MPass account, on a committee member’s phone. The centre’s own access badge or desk procedure is separate and stays in place.
Does the Competition plan register a player for inter-university games?
No. Team lists and registrations for fixtures are sent to the organisers by you, in the form they ask for. The plan on the card only shows inside the society who has paid the competition fee and may be selected.
Members join for one semester only. Is that possible?
Yes. The end date is set card by card. An exchange student who leaves in January can have a card that stops then, at a fee you decide. Students who stay simply have a card running to the end of the academic year.
Does MPass collect membership fees?
No. You enter the amounts for information only. Your members pay the club as usual (bank transfer, in person) and you activate their card in MPass. No payment goes through the app.
Do we need to install an app?
No. You manage everything from your browser, and your members install nothing: the card goes straight into Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android), which are already on their phone.
