International student association membership card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet

Exchange students land in September or February, stay five months, speak six languages between them and do not have a local bank account yet. An international student association membership card in the Wallet reaches them by a simple link, runs for exactly their semester, and gets them onto your trips and into your parties.

A card for one semester, in several languages

The international card displays your association’s logo, the student’s name and member number, the plan and the end date. International student and Buddy are example plans; local buddies usually pay nothing. Each card has its own end date, so a one-semester student and a full-year student are both covered. The card is shown in the language of the phone, among English, French, Dutch and German. It is sent by email or link, and you check it by scanning the QR code with your phone at trips and parties.

Example plans and amounts from the “International card” template: you change the names, the amounts and the validity period. MPass does not collect these amounts. On the back of the card you write your own text, for example: Erasmus · Buddy system · Welcome week.

Three real situations

The welcome week desk

New arrivals queue with a hundred questions. They join through the membership link on their own phone, pay the association in cash or by whatever means they have, and leave the desk with the card in their Wallet.

Boarding the coach to Bruges

Fifty seats, a driver who wants to leave on time. Every seat is a ticket with a QR code, scanned at the coach door, so you know at once who is still asleep in their residence.

February: the second wave

A new group arrives as the autumn one goes home. The autumn cards expire on their own date; the newcomers get cards that run to June. Nobody has to clean a list by hand.

How it works: 3 steps

Open the “International association” template

It is already set up for this activity: “International card” as the title, example plans, colours. Add your logo and your own text in ten minutes.

Add your members

One by one, through a sign-up link each person fills in, or by Excel import on the Pro plan. Everyone receives their card by email or by link.

Scan with your phone

The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in one tap. To check it, you scan its QR code with your own phone, with no hardware to buy.

Example: 180 exchange students and 40 buddies

Imagine an association that welcomes 110 exchange students in September and 70 in February, with 40 local buddies. Example fee: €15 per semester for international students, nothing for buddies. The committee shares the membership link in the welcome email sent before arrival, and activates cards at the welcome desk when the fee is paid. Counting the cards active at the same time, the association stays under 300 and uses Essential at €19 excl. VAT a month.

Tickets for your events too

The same app creates tickets for your events, for example “Trip to Bruges” or “Welcome party”. You share a link, each guest gets a ticket with a QR code in their Wallet, and you scan at the door. MPass does not collect the ticket price: you take it as you always have. See event ticketing.

What it costs

Free up to 50 active cards or tickets, with no time limit. The Essential plan (€19 a month excluding VAT, up to 300 cards) adds renewal reminders and certificates. The Pro plan (€49 a month excluding VAT) adds Excel import. No commitment, and a 14-day trial of the paid plans with no credit card.

Frequently asked questions

Students stay one semester. Can the card stop when they leave?

Yes. You set the end date of each card. A student here from September to January has a card that expires in January; one who stays the whole year has a card that runs to June. If someone extends their stay, you move the date and the card updates.

In which language do students see their card?

The card is shown in the language of their phone when that language is English, French, Dutch or German. The committee’s interface exists in the same four languages, which helps when the committee itself is a mix of local and exchange students.

Newcomers have no local bank account yet. Is that a problem?

Not for MPass, because it never takes payments. Students pay your association in whatever way you accept: cash at the desk, a transfer from their home account, a payment app. Once you have the fee, you activate the card.

Does MPass collect membership fees?

No. You enter the amounts for information only. Your members pay the club as usual (bank transfer, in person) and you activate their card in MPass. No payment goes through the app.

Do we need to install an app?

No. You manage everything from your browser, and your members install nothing: the card goes straight into Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android), which are already on their phone.
