The student card for colleges and universities, in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet
At a small college or a higher education institute, printing student cards every autumn means a machine, ribbons, and a queue at the student office in the first week. A student card issued in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet reaches each student by email, shows the academic year, and is scanned at the library or the exam hall.

Student or staff, valid for the academic year
The card carries the institution’s name, logo and colours, the holder’s name, a number, the type of card and its validity. Two types usually cover it, for example Student at €0 and Staff at €0, the amount being indicative only. Re-enrolled students see next year’s date appear on the same card; graduates’ cards expire. At the library desk, the cafeteria or an exam room, a member of staff scans the QR code with a phone to check that the card is current. Nothing is installed on the student’s side.

Example plans and amounts from the “Student card” template: you change the names, the amounts and the validity period. MPass does not collect these amounts. On the back of the card you write your own text, for example: Library · Cafeteria · Student office · Activities.
Three real situations
Welcome week at the student office
Instead of queuing for a printed card, new students receive an email before the first day and add the card on the train in. The student office spends welcome week answering questions, not laminating.
Identity check before an exam
Invigilators walk the rows and look at student cards. A card in the Wallet shows the name and the academic year, and can be scanned if there is any doubt that it is current.
The welcome session in the main hall
For a session with limited seats, share a ticket link with first-years. They register themselves and show a QR code at the lecture hall door, and you can plan a second session if the first fills up.
How it works: 3 steps
Open the “College & university” template
It is already set up for this activity: “Student card” as the title, example plans, colours. Add your logo and your own text in ten minutes.
Add your members
One by one, through a sign-up link each person fills in, or by Excel import on the Pro plan. Everyone receives their card by email or by link.
Scan with your phone
The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in one tap. To check it, you scan its QR code with your own phone, with no hardware to buy.
Example: a college with 850 students and 90 staff
Take a higher education institute with 850 students and 90 members of staff, 940 cards. The registry exports its enrolment list to Excel and imports it on the Pro plan at €49 excl. VAT per month. Cards go out by email to institutional addresses in the week before term. Tuition fees and enrolment remain entirely in the registry’s own system: MPass only issues the card once you have added the student. For the open day, 200 visitor tickets are created and scanned at the campus entrance.
Tickets for your events too
The same app creates tickets for your events, for example “Welcome session” or “Open day”. You share a link, each guest gets a ticket with a QR code in their Wallet, and you scan at the door. MPass does not collect the ticket price: you take it as you always have. See event ticketing. By event type: Conference and talk · Open day · all events.
What it costs
Free up to 50 active cards or tickets, with no time limit. The Essential plan (€19 a month excluding VAT, up to 300 cards) adds renewal reminders and certificates. The Pro plan (€49 a month excluding VAT) adds Excel import. No commitment, and a 14-day trial of the paid plans with no credit card.
Frequently asked questions
Does the student card open doors or pay for printing?
No. MPass does not control doors or turnstiles and holds no credit for printing or meals. It is a visual and scannable proof of enrolment. If you already have badge readers on campus, the Wallet card will not replace those badges.
Is the card recognised for student discounts outside campus?
The card shows your institution, the student’s name and the academic year. Whether a shop, a transport company or a cinema accepts it is up to them. MPass is not an official identity document and makes no claim on that point.
Is MPass a fit for a large university?
It is designed for clubs, associations and smaller institutions. With several thousand students, an existing campus card system will usually serve you better. MPass makes sense for a single school, a faculty or a department that needs its own card.
Does MPass collect membership fees?
No. You enter the amounts for information only. Your members pay the club as usual (bank transfer, in person) and you activate their card in MPass. No payment goes through the app.
Do we need to install an app?
No. You manage everything from your browser, and your members install nothing: the card goes straight into Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android), which are already on their phone.
